1. New VA clinic coming to South Burlington (burlingtonfreepress.com) — A major new VA outpatient clinic is coming to South Burlington, designed to expand and modernize care for more than 56,000 veterans in the Burlington area. The 36,000-square-foot facility, with ample parking, will support primary, mental health, and specialty care, and is expected to open to patients by spring 2029 after construction wraps up in 2028.
2. Victim pulled from burning building in Burlington, fire chief says (mynbc5.com) — Firefighters pulled a person from a burning home on Hale Court in Burlington late Sunday, sending the victim to UVM Medical Center, where their condition is still unknown. Burlington crews called a second alarm and were assisted by South Burlington, Winooski, Colchester, and UVM Rescue while investigators work to determine what caused the blaze.
3. New alliance aims to give Burlington businesses a voice at City Hall (921wvtk.com) — Downtown Burlington business owners are forming a new Downtown Business Alliance, led by the Lake Champlain Chamber, to push for changes at City Hall as safety and disorder concerns grow. Members hope a unified voice will influence regulations, cleanup of City Hall Park, and transparency around incidents, aiming for noticeable improvements in the next 6 to 12 months.
4. Vermont moves to rein in hospital 'facility fees' (wcax.com) — From Burlington, state regulators are moving to curb hospital "facility fees" that can add hundreds of dollars to Vermonters' medical bills, including at UVM Health. The Green Mountain Care Board is phasing in reference-based pricing through 2030, aiming to lower charges while hospitals and advocates debate how far cuts can go without threatening access to care.
