1. Vermont State Police patrols end in Burlington following violent weekend (mynbc5.com) — Vermont State Police have ended their extra patrols in downtown Burlington after three weeks, even as a violent weekend brought two stabbings and gunfire incidents. Gov. Phil Scott says troopers could return if city leaders request help, while Burlington officials emphasize holding offenders accountable and note that overall violent crime has been trending down.
2. Man arrested, accused of threatening worker with knife at Burlington supermarket (mychamplainvalley.com) — An unhoused man was arrested Wednesday evening after allegedly threatening a worker with a knife while trying to steal items from Burlington's downtown City Market. Police say he was taken into custody less than a block away and faces an assault and robbery with a deadly weapon charge, highlighting ongoing safety concerns at the busy downtown grocery.
3. State of Vermont, Superior Court, Probate Division, Chittenden Unit, Docket No. 24-PR-03179 (sevendaysvt.com) — Local creditors are being notified about the estate of Edward White Sr., formerly of South Burlington, with claims to be filed through the Chittenden Unit Probate Court at 175 Main Street in Burlington. If you believe you're owed money, you must submit a written claim within four months of the first publication date to both the executor and the Burlington court.
4. South Burlington Fire Chief sworn in as president of international association (mychamplainvalley.com) — South Burlington's fire chief, Steven Locke, has been sworn in as president and board chair of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, giving Vermont's second-largest city a voice on a global firefighting stage. Locke, who joined South Burlington's department in 2022, will help shape training and advocacy that can influence fire safety practices across the Burlington area.
