📰 News we're reading

• Walk to Defeat ALS returns to Burlington this fall (burlingtonfreepress.com) — Hundreds of neighbors are expected at Oakledge Park on September 26 for Burlington's Walk to Defeat ALS, raising money for research, care, and advocacy. Registration is open now, with walkers encouraged to fundraise and those raising at least $100 earning a commemorative T-shirt. Organizers say the event supports both Vermonters living with ALS and broader treatment advances.

• Burlington Technical Center opens permanent home at new high school (921wvtk.com) — Students are starting the year in Burlington's new high school building, which now houses the Burlington Technical Center under the same roof for the first time since PCB issues closed the old campus in 2020. Programs ranging from criminal justice to health sciences and digital media now share expanded space between the high school and Burlington International Airport. Educators say the move boosts capacity and gives teens more real-world learning options close to home.

• Turtle alert! Snapping turtle nests spotted at North Beach (mynbc5.com) — Heading to North Beach in Burlington soon? Parks and Rec has fenced off snapping turtle nests near the playground and is asking visitors to give hatchlings space, leash dogs, and call the department if they notice movement or problems so the tiny turtles can safely reach the lake and wetlands.
