1. Ribbon cutting celebrates completion of Burlington Wildways Trail (mynbc5.com) — Burlington's new nearly ten-mile Wildways Trail is now fully open, linking the Intervale, Ethan Allen Homestead, Ethan Allen Park, Rock Point, and the waterfront from the Winooski River to Lake Champlain. Community members and city leaders marked the long-planned project with a ribbon cutting and guided hike, celebrating a major new way to explore Burlington's "wild heart."
2. Vermont's Tibetan, Nepalese communities grieve after flooding (wcax.com) — Burlington's Nepalese and Tibetan communities are rallying after deadly flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border, with Namaste Kitchen Express staff anxiously awaiting word from family back home. Local Tibetans have held a prayer gathering, and the Tibetan Association of Vermont is collecting donations, while Burlington customers check in and offer support to help send relief overseas.
3. H.S. football previews: SeaWolves (wcax.com) — Burlington-area football fans will see the SeaWolves return to play home games at Burlington High School on September 18 as a new era begins under head coach Josh Safran. Players from BHS, South Burlington, and Winooski say they're focused on fitness, unity, and shaking off last year's winless season with a stronger shared identity.
4. "It feels good to give back": USNS Burlington crew supports Green Mountain Habitat (mynbc5.com) — Vermonters in Hinesburg got some extra help building affordable homes when crew members from the Navy ship USNS Burlington volunteered with Green Mountain Habitat for Humanity during Vermont's first Navy Week. The ship, named for Vermont's largest city, sent its civilian crew to install floor joists on new triplexes as the nonprofit pushes toward its goal of 10 homes a year.
