1. Solar parking canopy plan announced for Burlington Electric office (mychamplainvalley.com) — Burlington Electric plans to add a timber-frame solar canopy over about 13 visitor parking spaces at its Pine Street office, aiming to power roughly 27–30 homes by 2027. Funded through the Net Zero Energy Revenue Bond, the project supports Burlington's climate goals and expands visible clean-energy infrastructure alongside existing electric equipment and public EV charging.
2. State of Vermont Superior Court, Probate Division, Chittenden Unit, Docket No. 26-PR-04563 (sevendaysvt.com) — Creditors of the late Jacqueline Swartz of South Burlington are being notified that they must submit written claims within four months of the first publication date. Claims should be sent to executor Donald R. Swartz at his South Burlington address, with a copy to the Chittenden Probate Court on Main Street in Burlington, or they may be barred.
3. From Burlington to Barre, volunteers work to address food insecurity (mynbc5.com) — Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont employees spent Thursday volunteering in Burlington, including farm and trail work at the Intervale Center that supports free local food for residents. Their efforts, part of the company's Day of Service during Hunger Action Month, also aided statewide food distribution through the Vermont Foodbank in Barre, highlighting ongoing work to tackle food insecurity in Vermont communities.
4. AI Demand Brings More Chip Work to Vermont's Largest Plant (compassvermont.com) — GlobalFoundries' Essex Junction plant, known as its Burlington facility, is getting more chip work under a new agreement with Marvell, reinforcing its role as Vermont's largest private employer and a major Burlington-area power user. The deal ties into recent federal CHIPS funding and could influence future hiring, training programs, and local construction, though the company hasn't said yet whether more jobs are coming.
5. Vermont Council on World Affairs hosts 2026 State of the World Summit celebrating International Day of Peace (vermontbiz.com) — Burlington will host the Vermont Council on World Affairs' 2026 State of the World Summit at Hula Lakeside on September 23, focusing on how global issues shape life in Vermont. Local leaders, academics, and international experts will discuss topics from agriculture and trade to disinformation and security, with registration open and financial assistance available for residents who need it.
