1. Burlington apartments for rent saw price increases since last August (burlingtonfreepress.com) — Burlington renters are facing higher costs, with median apartment listings reaching $2,165 in August, up 3% from last year and running 14% above the Vermont state median. One-bedroom and two-bedroom units show mixed month-to-month changes, but Burlington prices remain significantly higher than both statewide and national averages, underscoring the city's ongoing affordability challenges.
2. Burlington City Council, Openings, Burlington City Commissions/Boards (sevendaysvt.com) — Burlington residents are being invited to apply for several key city boards and commissions, including the Church Street Marketplace Commission, Development Review Board, and other advisory roles, with terms extending into 2027 and 2029. Applications are due to the Clerk/Treasurer's Office at 149 Church Street by Wednesday, November 4, 2026, and appointments will be made at the November 9 City Council meetings.
3. Church Street businesses appeal directly to Gov. Scott for public safety help (wcax.com) — Downtown Burlington business owners and the Church Street Marketplace Commission are formally asking Gov. Phil Scott for more public safety help, including redeploying state troopers to the city. Their letter also urges support for a 100-bed shelter, restoring the accountability court, and planning a state mental health facility, as local leaders press for faster action on visible safety concerns.
4. UVM police received multiple reports of 'date rape' drug incidents over last several days (mynbc5.com) — Burlington-area students are being warned after UVM Police reported multiple suspected "date rape" drug incidents at off-campus locations in recent days. Officials say the investigation is active, bars are stepping up precautions, and police are offering a cash reward for substantive tips, while urging students to closely watch their drinks and seek help immediately if they feel unwell.
5. Larner Accolades & Accomplishments: September 30, 2026 (uvm.edu) — Recent weeks have brought a flurry of activity to Burlington's UVM campus, from a major international redox biology symposium in town to a women's health and cancer conference and a health equity summit. Local researchers and clinicians also earned significant NIH grants, fellowships, and new professorships, strengthening Burlington's role as a regional hub for cutting-edge medical research and community health work.
