'Charlie's Boathouse' in Burlington bought by park district (mychamplainvalley.com) — A longtime Burlington favorite, Charlie's Boathouse in the New North End, has been purchased by the Winooski Valley Park District and is slated to become a new public park. 3. Record diesel prices strain Vermont school district budgets (wcax.com) — School districts in and around Burlington, including South Burlington and Champlain Valley, are straining under record diesel prices that far exceed their budgets for bus fuel. 4. Vermont Department of Health offers advice to deal with fall allergies (mynbc5.com) — Burlington residents are being urged by the Vermont Department of Health to take extra care with fall allergies as warmer temperatures may be extending pollen season. Local health officials recommend tracking pollen and air quality, keeping windows closed, showering after outdoor time, and managing indoor dust or mold. Anyone with asthma or trouble breathing is advised to consult a doctor or seek emergency care if symptoms worsen.
5. No. 7 Bulldogs Fall 3-0 to Vermont in Nonconference Play (umdbulldogs.com) — Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington hosted a strong showing by the University of Vermont women's hockey team, shutting out No. 7 Minnesota Duluth 3–0 with goals in every period. The Catamounts were outshot but backed by standout goaltending, and they'll face Duluth again Saturday afternoon, giving local fans another chance to see top-ranked competition on home ice.
