Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:

  1. Vermont's Senate Transportation Committee is studying whether Burlington should run the Burlington International Airport. The city has owned and operated the airport since 1920. Some Senators do not like how Chittenden County airspace is effectively owned by Burlington which makes noise mitigation strategies difficult. Burlington officials are touting the airport's financial success under its management which supports the Burlington economy. (vtdigger.org)
  2. Staffers from Mayor Weinberger's administration met with the public to discuss the homeless shelter "pods." The city is still seeking the permits necessary to construct the pods on the Old North End parking lot. Residents are upset that the staffers did not seem to care about any of their input but felt that the administration was just placating them with a meeting. (vtdigger.org)
  3. Burlington-based Hoehl Family Foundation has granted $150,000 to Make-A-Wish Vermont. The funds will be distributed to the organization over the next three years. Make-A-Wish Vermont grants requests for children with critical illnesses. Sometimes, a wish is the turning point in a child's treatment plan. (Vermont Biz)
