Here are the top three stories in Burlington today:

  1. Burlington residents are being asked to protect wildlife and the state's economy by battling invasive species. The state relies on timber sales that are being pressured by invasive plants reducing forest regeneration. The South Burlington Recreation and Parks' Weed Warrior program is training volunteers on how to identify and remove invasive species from public spaces and parks. (Burlington Free Press)
  2. More than 30 apartments were evacuated Friday morning in downtown Burlington due to carbon monoxide issues, according to officials with the Burlington Fire Department. Apartments at 191 College Street were evacuated and the building's gas was shut off. The residents waited outside for three hours while fire crews determined the root cause of the issue. (WCAX)
  3. Phase one of the Moran Plant project, a coal-fired power plant, is nearly complete. The multi-million dollar project has numerous false starts and issues but the plant's transformation is making some notable progress, according to Mayor Weinberger. The plant has been stripped down and phase one is likely to conclude in August to prepare for phase two. (WCAX)
