Here are the top three stories in Burlington today:

  1. A federal court in Burlington has charged Nathan Caraman for allegedly killing his mother at sea to inherit the family's estate. The incident in question occurred in the ocean off the coast of Rhode Island in 2016. According to the indictment, Caraman also allegedly shot and killed his grandfather in 2013 to defraud insurance companies - but he is not being charged with that. (WNEM)
  2. Burlington's Half Pint Farm is permanently shutting down. Co-owners Emily and Sean Mitchell confirmed the closure in an email. The farm closure is reportedly due to the struggles that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic. (Seven Days)
  3. The Burlington Police Department reports that affinity groups are the cause of a recent increase in gun-related incidents within the city. Affinity groups are different from gangs because they do not have a hierarchical internal structure and are not entrepreneurial. The department is working on increasing its response rate while working with a reduced staff. (WPTZ)
