First, today's weather:
Mostly cloudy and not as cold. High: 44 Low: 34.
Here are the top three stories in Burlington today:
- Eight hundred Vermont citizens took the frigid plunge into Lake Champlain on Saturday. The cold swim was hosted by Special Olympics Vermont for its 27th annual Penguin Plunge event. The organization was raising $460,000 through the event that would cover nearly 40 percent of its yearly operating budget. (WCAX)
- Burlington students participated in a walkout Friday protesting Texas and Florida's recent anti-LGBTQ legislation. The walkout was part of a national effort that saw students from Burlington High School and Edmund's Middle School congregating on Church Street. The Texas Governor wants to label the parents of transgender children as abusers and Florida wants to limit teachers' ability to discuss gender with their students. (WPTZ)
- Burlington aging services and community organizations can now apply for funding from the Vermont Association of Area Agencies on Aging. The funding was made available through the American Rescue Plan Act with a focus on supporting services for older Vermont citizens. Applications can be submitted until May 1. (WCAX)
