Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:
- Burlington's Pho Hong will be expanding into neighboring space after purchasing the two next-door units. Owners Dao Le and Lan Hong opened the restaurant in 2008 where they serve popular Vietnamese dishes. The restaurant will not expand into the end unit since the sales agreement required the owners to continue operating the laundromat. (Seven Days)
- Governor Scott has appointed Burlington's Nancy Kaplan to the Vermont Commission on Women. The commission is a non-partisan body meant to advance rights and opportunities for women throughout the state. Kaplan is a Research Navigator at The University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine where she works to connect Vermont clinicians with community resources. (vtdigger.org)
- The Champlain Parkway project is more expensive than previously estimated and city officials are pointing to multiple reasons. The project is meant to add a new road to the South End of Burlington but is now seeing a 57 percent increase in its cost. City officials are blaming inflation, the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the lack of competition in the bidding process for the project's sharp price increase. (vtdigger.org)
