Here are the top three stories in Burlington today:

  1. Two industry pros will open a new restaurant called May Day in Burlington. The new restaurant will be located at 258 North Winooski Avenue and will seek to honor local producers and showcase Vermont's native foods. Co-owners Mojo Hancy-Davis and Matthew Peterson will preview the food at a lunch pop-up on Feb. 5 at Dedalus Wine Shop, Market & Wine Bar. (Seven Days)
  2. New details about the Vermont man who was convicted in connection to the Jan. 6 riots have surfaced. Nicholas Languerand has been sentenced to 44 months in a Virginia prison for assaulting an officer during the Capital riots. Languerand was given a shorter sentence because the judge was convinced his traumatic past played a role in his actions during the riot. Languerand has expressed interest in moving back to Vermont once he is released from prison. (WCAX)
  3. The search for a Burlington Police chief will continue after the City Council recently rejected the nomination of Acting Police Chief Jon Murad. A major discussion point during the meeting was Mayor Weinberger's refusal to expand the search for a new police chief. Murad was opposed by many of the Council for his unwillingness to reform the Department and for refusing to acknowledge racial disparities. (WCAX)
