Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:
- Hundreds of local hockey players and fans flocked to Lake Champlain for the 10th annual Pond Hockey Classic. The outdoor event relies on perfect weather conditions that enable the amateur tournament to occur. The tournament draws over a hundred teams from across the country and brings in tourism to the Burlington area. (WPTZ)
- Vermont State Police urge Burlington drivers to watch out for drainage ditches hiding underneath road snow and ice. State police have responded to numerous accidents involving drivers getting stuck in the drainage ditches. While vehicles usually only require a tow, there has been one fatality related to the ditches this season. (WCAX)
- The Vermont Child Tax Credit could help many Burlington families make ends meet. The tax credit would distribute $50 million among Vermont families. The credit would split $1200 between two annual payments for every child under 6 years of age in a household making less than $220,000 annually. (WCAX)
