Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:

  1. An effort to invest in public safety through social services is gaining steam in Burlington. The effort comes after the 30 percent cut to the Burlington Police Department's hiring allowance. Advocates of social services in public safety argue that it will free up officers for more pressing calls. (vtdigger.org)
  2. An electric plane startup at Burlington International Airport is looking to eliminate short-haul trucks. The startup called Beta is developing an electric piloted airplane meant to carry cargo on short trips. The short trips are necessary since the battery charges don't last very long. (Concord Monitor)
  3. Some travel nurses who have been on assignment in Burlington have decided to make their move to Vermont a permanent one. According to these new Burlington citizens, they have fallen in love with the people and the weather. The nurses are a welcome addition to the area since hospitals are having a very difficult time hiring and retaining nursing staff. (WPTZ)
