🌱 Sara Holbrook Read-A-Thon + City Bike Path Open For Winter

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Burlington.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, Burlington! It's Tuesday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in town.

First, today's weather:

A little snow at times. High: 27 Low: -2.

Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:

  1. The Sara Holbrook Community Center is holding a read-a-thon fundraiser to support children's literacy. The Burlington-based center has noticed children falling behind on their reading skills, and hopes that this fundraiser will get the ball rolling on reversing that trend. To participate, family and friends sponsor a child to log online and read any content. Registration is currently open for the challenge, which begins on Feb. 18; participants may register solo or as part of a team. (WCAX)
  2. For the first winter in eight years, the entirety of the Burlington bike path is open to the public without detours or construction. Following the completion of a rehabilitation project in December, the new-and-improved path is available for residents to enjoy for all seasons. From leisurely walks to cross-country skiing to viewing the shores of Lake Champlain, there's something for everyone to enjoy! (WCAX)
  3. Looking for a career switch? There are plenty of Burlington-area employers that are hiring right now across multiple job functions. Check out our list of new job openings, including positions in customer service, warehousing, sales, and more. (Burlington Patch)

From our sponsor:

Last week, we told you about our new favorite non-alcoholic go-to — the refreshingly bitter drinks from our partners at Betera. They're chef-created from natural botanicals, lightly effervescent and worthy of life beyond "Dry January." We mentioned that their Ginger-Orange was excellent; we've since tried Elderflower-Lime and loved it as well — light and floral with the perfect amount of zing. We're converts.

Enough of you took Betera up on their 15% discount on first orders for Patch Daily readers that they've extended the offer for another week. Use PATCH15 at checkout. Highly recommended — try Betera here.

Today in Burlington:

  • Animal Demo - Echo Lahey Center for Lake Champlain (11:00 AM)

From my notebook:

  • Governor Scott has recognized Vermont School Choice Week, a time to remember the essential role that K-12 educational choice plays in the lives of students, teachers, and families across the state. (WCAX)
  • With just a fresh blanket of snow and a pair of snowshoes, Vermont artist John Predom manages to create unforgettable works of art. Check out his latest creation. (Burlington Free Press)
