(Patch Media)

Hello again, Burlington! Important update: You all, as readers, have made the Burlington Daily so successful that it is my honor to announce the next stage of the newsletter. Patch is looking for a local writer and entrepreneur to take the helm of the Burlington Daily. Although I have loved getting to know this community, we want to pass the torch to someone truly local to write about Burlington long term. So if you're interested in earning extra income while making this newsletter a more valuable resource for your neighbors, learn more and apply here.

First, today's weather:

A little afternoon rain. High: 45 Low: 42.

Here are the top three stories in Burlington today:

  1. The City of Burlington is looking at imposing regulations on short-term housing rentals throughout the city. The new regulations come amid an ongoing housing crisis. If the Burlington City Council decides to act on short-term housing rentals, the city would lose an estimated $100,000 from taxes paid by the rentals along with potential tourism that is boosted from flexible housing options for visitors. (WCAX)
  2. The Burlington Police Department reports it is struggling to patrol the city with only 65 sworn officers on the roster. This is the lowest police force presence the city has had in decades due to cuts made by the City Council in 2020. The City Council cut the number of available positions to 74 from 105 but they are currently working to increase that number using funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. (WPTZ)
  3. South Burlington School District superintendent David Young is stepping down from his position. Young has been working for the district for almost two decades but gave his surprise resignation during a school board meeting. Reportedly, Young will miss the students, staff, and community when he leaves the district on Jun. 30, 2022. (WCAX)
