🌱 Surgeries Postponed Due To Flooding + $5 Million Verdict

Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:

  1. UVM Medical Center had to postpone surgeries after a pipe burst and subsequently flooded most of the center's operating rooms. The incident occurred Saturday night and shut down 20 of the center's 22 operating rooms. In total, 49 surgeries were postponed with additional surgeries expected to be postponed later this week. (WCAX)
  2. A federal jury in Vermont has awarded a Vermont woman $5 million in punitive damages after a fertility doctor was convicted of secretly using his own DNA during an insemination procedure. Cheryl Rousseau was awarded the money after Dr. John Coates was found guilty of breach of contract, fraud, and battery. Dr. Coates's medical license has been revoked by the Vermont Medical Practice Board. (FOX 29)
  3. A box truck crashed into a Burlington laundromat Sunday night. The Burlington Fire Department reports that the box truck drove into a bus stop and a crosswalk sign before striking Greers Laundry on Shelburne Road. The department has not yet found the cause of the incident. (WCAX)
