Here are the top three stories today in Burlington:
- The Burlington City Council discussed the homeless pod project on Monday night. The $1.5 million plan was approved by the Public Works Commission to support the downtown homeless population. According to the city, the number of people experiencing homelessness has nearly tripled since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. (WCAX)
- South Burlington's University Mall is now under new ownership. Taconic Capital Advisors and Eastern Real Estate joined forces to purchase the mall for roughly $60 million. According to the partnership, the property is at 95 percent occupation with nearly 4 million visitors each year. (WCAX)
- According to a letter from Superintendent Flanagan that was distributed in early March, it will cost between $161 and $207 million to construct a new Burlington High School. The cost of demolishing the current structure would cost over $26 million. The current structure was abandoned in 2020 after toxic building materials were discovered. (Construction Equipment Guide)
