Annual VT walk fundraises for breast cancer research (mynbc5.com) — Hundreds of neighbors just turned out in South Burlington for the annual Making Strides breast cancer walk, raising more than $43,000 so far and still collecting donations. Local survivors shared their stories on stage, and organizers hope to reach $88,000, while a separate Southern Vermont walk later this month aims to add even more support for research and patient programs.
   

2. Lane closures continue on I-89 in South Burlington for pedestrian bridge work (wcax.com) — If you drive I-89 through South Burlington, expect recurring weekday lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. as crews build the city's new pedestrian bridge. Public works officials say more daytime and possible overnight closures will continue into next year, with the project's first phase not opening until late 2028.
   

3. The Folk Show Music and Dance Calendar (nhpr.org) — Music fans in South Burlington have a full calendar at Higher Ground, starting tonight with Katie Pruitt and continuing this month with acts like Lost Dog Street Band, Adam Ezra Group, Gaelic Storm, Will Carlisle, The Bones of J.R. Jones, and more. Dates run from early October into November, giving locals plenty of nearby live-show options.
   

4. F-35 noise upgrades delayed, VT homeowners face months of jet roar (burlingtonfreepress.com) — Residents near Burlington International Airport, including parts of South Burlington and Chamberlin School, will wait until at least spring for promised F-35 jet noise soundproofing. Federal funding delays pushed upgrades on 70 homes and facilities into 2027, despite millions already secured. Officials say the program will still eventually reach hundreds of affected properties.
   

5. Breakout performers of the 2026 Vermont high school boys soccer season (burlingtonfreepress.com) — South Burlington soccer fans will be glad to know sophomore winger Raja Badibanga is being recognized statewide for his breakout season, with three goals and three assists so far. A midseason roundup of Vermont boys soccer highlights 12 emerging players, including Badibanga's game-changing speed and positivity that his coach says lifts the Wolves in training and matches.
