Massive Layoffs In VA Take Effect July 1 As Job Losses Climb

Layoffs announced earlier this spring take effect on Wednesday in Virginia and around the country.

Hundreds of Virginians lost their jobs on July 1, along with thousands more across the country, as a major temporary staffing firm restructures.

In Virginia, 776 employees of the Ideal US Talent Systems Worker OpCo LLC were laid off as of Wednesday.

According to the WARN notice provided to the Virginia Department of Workforce Development, all laid-off employees were gig workers who averaged 3.6 hours per week for the company.

Ideal US Talent Systems also reported plans to lay off 1,395 employees in Illinois; 687 in Georgia; 307 in Washington, D.C.; and two in Rhode Island. According to U.S. layoff trackers, the total number of affected employees is nearly 10,000.

The company says it is transitioning its customer contracts to a third-party partner and encourages affected employees to apply there.

In Virginia, the temporary staffing company’s job cuts are part of a grim trend: through May 31, there were 4,838 layoffs announced according to WARN notices. That's 1,087 more than the first five months of 2025, when 3,751 were announced, a 29 percent increase.
