Dominion Energy customers in Virginia will see their energy bills increase by about $8 a month, the company said Wednesday. The rate increases took effect on July 1.
According to the company, customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours will see an average bump of about $8 in the fuel portion of their monthly power bill. The company attributed the change to increases in fuel prices and the cost of purchasing power over the past year.
The increase is separate from the base rate increase approved in November.
In statements to Virginia's utility regulator, the State Corporation Commission, Dominion Energy explained that it had had to buy more fuel than usual at higher costs than usual over the bitterly cold, snowy winter of 2025-26.
Cardinal News reported in May that Dominion had submitted an application to the SCC outlining two possibilities for recovering those costs. The company said it could either recover the costs over the course of one year, by raising bills about 12 percent, or around $22 per month, or it could raise them by 4.5 percent, around $8, for one year and then an additional $1.50 for the following 10 years.
It appears the latter plan has been approved.
