Virginia has no shortage of places to grab a breakfast sandwich, but one favorite has been singled out in a new national ranking.
The Daily Meal named The Fancy Biscuit in Richmond the best breakfast sandwich spot in Virginia and highlighted the Got Your Goat on a list of the best breakfast sandwiches in every state.
At The Fancy Biscuit in Richmond, The Daily Meal said you'll find nationally-acclaimed biscuits and other Southern-inspired fare. The eatery was also featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives."
The Daily Meal encouraged diners to try the Got Your Goat, which features fried chicken, goat cheese, and red pepper jelly.
“Brined for 48 hours, the fried chicken is the specialty here, but the goat cheese gives this biscuit sandwich an unexpected twist,” The Daily Meal wrote.
Overall, the list said breakfast sandwiches remain one of the country’s favorite morning meals, with shops across the United States putting their own spin on the basic combination of meat, cheese, eggs and bread. The Daily Meal said its picks included coffee shops, diners, bakeries, brunch restaurants and other local favorites.
The full list includes breakfast sandwiches ranging from buttermilk biscuit sandwiches in the South to bagel sandwiches in the Northeast, along with croissant, focaccia, pita, waffle and English muffin versions.
