Child, Adult Drown After Failed Rescue Attempt In Chesterfield Pond: Report

A woman drowned trying to help a child struggling in a pond Sunday afternoon, police say. The child also drowned.

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, VA – A 12-year-old child and a 30-year-old woman drowned in a private pond Sunday afternoon, according to reports.

WRIC reports that Chesterfield County Police and Chesterfield Fire and Rescue responded to the 13300 block of Bradley Bridge Road just before 5 p.m. on Sunday. They say a 12-year-old child had gone into the water and began struggling. A 30-year-old family member then entered the water to help but also became submerged.

Both had been pulled from the water by the time emergency personnel arrived. Crews attempted lifesaving measures, but both were pronounced dead at the scene.
