ARLINGTON, VA — Two people were arrested Sunday afternoon after Arlington police responded to a report of unlawful entry at a vacant residence in Crystal City, according to police.
Officers were dispatched shortly before 2 p.m. to investigate the report of a man and woman entering a vacant apartment in the 1900 block of South Eads Street, according to police.
Responding officers found both suspects at the scene and took them into custody, police reported. While in custody, the male suspect provided false identifying information to officers, and police determined that he was wanted by other jurisdictions.
Brenda Villanueva Flores, 28, of an undetermined address, was arrested and charged with unlawful entry, according to police. Wesley Gilbert, 39, also of an undetermined adderess, was arrested and charged with unlawful entry and giving false identity to a law enforcement officer, police said.
Gilbert was scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in Arlington General District Court and a preliminary hearing was set for 10:30 a.m. on June 12, according to court documents.
Both charges Gilbert is facing are Class 1 misdemeanors. If convicted on either of these charges, he faces a potential sentence of up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500, under Virginia law.
Police served Gilbert a warrant out of Augusta County for failing to appear for a May 28, 2025 hearing in Augusta County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, according to court documents.
Flores is scheduled to be arraigned 2 p.m. on Monday, May 11, in Arlington General District Court, according to court documents. No preliminary hearing has been set.
Police also served Gilbert with the outstanding warrants. He was held without bond, according to police.
On April 16, Flores was arraigned in Fairfax County General District Court on one count of misdemeanor petite larceny and two counts of felony possession of Schedule I or II substances in connection to an April 15 arrest, according to court documents. Following her arraignment, she was released on her own recognizance.
The possession charges are both Class 5 felonies. If convicted on either of these charges, Flores faces a possible sentence of one to 10 years in prison, or at the court's discretion, up to 12 months in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.
