MD Man Arrested For Assault After Crosswalk Attack Near Shirlington, Police Say

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington police arrested a Maryland man after a reported assault Friday morning at a Shirlington intersection, according to police.

Officers were dispatched just after 10 a.m. for a reported assault at the intersection of Shirlington Road and South Arlington Mill Drive, according to the incident report. When officers arrived, they determined that a male victim was walking in the crosswalk when he became involved in an argument with another man who was driving in the area.

According to police, the suspect got out of his vehicle and struck the victim, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then drove off in his vehicle. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Police broadcast a lookout for the suspect vehicle, which an officer spotted on northbound I-395. The officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Boundary Channel Drive and took the suspect into custody, according to police.

Raymond Crowe, 40, of Landover, Maryland, was arrested and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, police said.

Crowe was scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in Arlington General District Court and is currently out on bail, according to court records. No information was available about a preliminary hearing date.

The aggravated malicious wounding charge is a Class 2 felony. If convicted, Crowe could be sentenced up to 20 years to life in prison and fined up to $100,000, under the Code of Virginia.
