Defense Tech Firm To Add 210 Jobs In Arlington Expansion

An Arlington-based technology firm plans a $19 million expansion at its Ballston headquarters, creating 210 jobs.

ARLINGTON, VA — Innovative Defense Technologies plans to invest $19 million to expand its Arlington County headquarters and add 210 jobs, Gov. Abigail Spanberger announced Thursday.

The expansion will double the company’s Virginia workforce, according to the governor’s office.

The Arlington-based company works on software and systems integration for U.S. military programs. State officials said the project will be supported by an $800,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund, along with workforce training assistance through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

“Innovative Defense Technologies’ expansion in Virginia is a reflection of our position as a leader in advanced technology — and a shared commitment to strengthening our national security,” Spanberger said, in a statement. “This investment will create hundreds of high-quality jobs for Virginians.”

Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery said Virginia’s workforce played a role in the company’s decision to expand.

“Our workforce brings the specialized expertise and mission focus needed to deliver complex solutions quickly and effectively,” Chenery said in a statement.

IDT Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bernie Gauf said Virginia’s workforce and proximity to federal customers contributed to the company’s growth plans.

“The mission we support is complex and Virginia has been central to how we execute that work, with deep technical talent and close proximity to the customers we support every day,” Gauf said, in a statement.

According to the company, IDT works with Department of Defense programs to integrate, test and deploy software-driven military capabilities. The company said it uses automation and digital engineering tools to speed up development and deployment processes.

Arlington County Board Chair Matt de Ferranti said the expansion adds to Ballston’s concentration of technology and defense-related employers.

“Innovative Defense Technologies’ expansion in Ballston reflects Arlington’s strength as a place where advanced technology companies can grow and thrive,” de Ferranti said, in a statement.

State Sen. Barbara Favola (D-Arlington) said the expansion reflects investments in workforce development and infrastructure in the county and across Virginia.

Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington) called the project “a premier hub for technical talent and national security innovation” in a statement announcing the expansion.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Arlington County on the project, according to the governor’s office.
