ARLINGTON, VA — A 36-year-old Arlington man is facing multiple charges after he tried to enter a Columbia Forest home earlier in the month, according to authorities.
On Thursday, officers responded just before 7:30 p.m. to investigate the late report of a burglary in the 1000 block of South Frederick Street, according to the incident report.
A preliminary investigation revealed that from about 10:20 p.m. on May 15 and 4:30 a.m. on May 16, the suspect, whom the victim knows, tried to enter the victim's secured residence, according to police. When he failed to gain entry, the suspect fled the area.
The officers also learned that about six months earlier the victim saw the suspect enter their unoccupied, unlocked vehicle without permission, according to police.
Through their investigation, police identified Juan Pablo Covarrubias Beltran of Arlington as the suspect, according to the report. He was arrested and charged with three counts of entering a house to commit assault and battery; petit larcent and entering a vehicle, court records say. He was then released on his own recognizance.
Beltran is scheduled to be arraigned at 2 p.m on Wednesday in Arlington General District Court, according to court records.
The entering a house to commit assault and battery charges are Class 5 felonies, which are publishable by one to 10 years in prison and fines up to $2,500, if convicted, under the Code of Virginia.
