ARLINGTON, VA — Military veterans, transitioning service members and employers will gather in Arlington later this month for a career summit focused on helping veterans move into civilian careers.
Marymount University, in partnership with Virginia Works, will host the Career Forward: Veteran Transition Summit on Friday, July 24, at the university's Ballston Center. The event comes one day before National Hire a Veteran Day and is designed to connect veterans with employers, career coaches and support organizations.
The one-day summit follows a similar Career Forward Summit that Marymount held in April for displaced federal employees and contractors.
According to the university, attendees will be able to choose between career tracks focused on public service or private industry. Workshops will cover topics including translating military experience into civilian qualifications, government hiring, entrepreneurship, personal branding and financial planning during career transitions.
The program also includes a three-hour career fair featuring employers with open positions, along with a workshop on using artificial intelligence to assist with résumé writing, job searches and LinkedIn profiles. Participants will finish the day by developing personalized 30-, 60- and 90-day career action plans with guidance from career coaches and veteran support specialists.
"As our nation commemorates its 250th anniversary, this summit is an opportunity to honor veterans not only for their service but also by ensuring they have the tools, support and opportunities to thrive in their next chapter," Glenn Davidson, Marymount's chief strategy officer and executive director of the university's Career Center, said in a statement. "We're proud to bring together partners across sectors to help veterans and transitioning military personnel translate their experience into meaningful careers."
Marymount said veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses are encouraged to attend. Employers interested in recruiting veterans at the career fair may also register to participate as exhibitors.
The summit will take place at Marymount University's Ballston Center in Arlington. Registration information is available through Marymount University's website.
