ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington residents interested in helping neighbors reduce energy use and promote sustainability will have an opportunity to learn more about the EcoAmbassadors volunteer program during an upcoming information session.
EcoAction Arlington and the Virginia Cooperative Extension are accepting applications through Aug. 31 for the 2026–27 EcoAmbassadors cohort, a volunteer training program focused on climate action, energy conservation and community engagement.
An informal information session is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Rocklands BBQ, 3471 Washington Blvd., Arlington. Prospective volunteers can meet program organizers and speak with past EcoAmbassadors about their experiences. Registration is available through EcoAction Arlington's online community events calendar.
The hybrid training program begins in September and is designed to equip volunteers with practical skills to help neighbors reduce energy consumption, lower utility costs and support greener neighborhoods in Arlington County and the City of Alexandria.
Following the training, participants commit to completing a minimum number of volunteer service hours throughout the year.
The program is open to anyone age 16 or older living in the Greater Washington area, and no previous environmental experience is required.
Program fees are $110 for applications submitted by Aug. 31, with an early-bird rate of $90 available through Aug. 17. Students may participate free of charge, and fee waivers are available for those who need financial assistance. Adult volunteers ages 18 and older who are accepted into the program must complete a background check.
Applications for the 2026–27 EcoAmbassadors program are available online through Aug. 31.
Residents interested in learning more before applying are encouraged to attend the Aug. 4 information session. Additional information about the program, eligibility requirements and the application process is available on EcoAction Arlington's website.
