ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington County police are asking for the public's help identifying a suspect in a shots-fired incident that occurred Saturday night in South Arlington, releasing new details and requesting surveillance and cellphone video as the investigation continues.
The Arlington County Police Department on Tuesday issued an Attempt to Identify bulletin related to the shooting, which occurred at about 9:56 p.m. July 25 in the 1400 block of 28th Street S. Officers responded after receiving reports of shots heard and recovered evidence confirming that gunfire had been fired. No injuries or property damage were reported.
According to police, the suspect is described as a man in his 50s. Officers searched the area after the shooting but were unable to locate him.
Investigators now say their preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was preceded by a dispute involving a group of people playing basketball.
Police previously announced they were investigating the incident after responding to reports of gunfire in the South Arlington neighborhood. Tuesday's bulletin provides the first public suspect description and additional information about what may have led to the shooting.
Police are encouraging anyone with home security camera footage or cellphone video that may assist the investigation to submit it through the department's online evidence portal.
