The fire was later brought under control. Arlington Fire & EMS said one firefighter was taken to Virginia Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries. No occupants of the home were injured.

Mayday Declared During Fire

In an update released Monday, Arlington Fire & EMS said a mayday was declared during the incident after the firefighter became injured inside the structure.

According to the department, the firefighter was quickly located by fellow crews, removed from the building, treated by EMS personnel at the scene and transported to Virginia Hospital Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

A "mayday" is an emergency distress call used by firefighters to indicate that a firefighter is in immediate danger and requires urgent assistance.

The Arlington County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
