ARLINGTON, VA — A Loudoun County man was charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer after police said he resisted arrest and attempted to strike an officer Thursday in Arlington.

Officers responded around 5:30 p.m. to investigate the report of disorderly conduct in the 400 block of 23rd Street South in Crystal City, according to the Arlington County Police Department. Police said a man was acting disorderly outside a business.

An officer contacted the man and attempted to take him into custody, but he resisted and tried to strike the officer, police said. Additional officers helped take him into custody.

Medics evaluated the man for minor injuries that police said he sustained before officers arrived. He was released by medics at the scene.

Police identified the man as Travis Robinson, 35, of Brambleton. He was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, misdemeanor obstruction of justice and public intoxication.

Arlington General District Court records list the obstruction charge as resisting or obstructing without force. Robinson was released on his own recognizance in the assault and obstruction cases and received a summons on the public intoxication charge, court records show.

An arraignment in all three cases was scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, in Arlington General District Court.

The charges are allegations, and Robinson is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
