ARLINGTON, VA — Young entrepreneurs will set up shop Saturday at Westpost in National Landing, where a Kids Market will give children a chance to sell their creations directly to customers.
The market is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 5 p.m. at Westpost at National Landing, 1201 S. Joyce St. in Arlington. Organizers said about 600 patrons are expected.
The event is designed to give children firsthand experience selling products, handling money and interacting with customers. Organizers describe the market as an opportunity for young vendors to practice counting cash, making change and explaining their work while earning money from their creations.
Registration for the market remains open and is scheduled to close at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, or earlier if all available spaces are filled.
Vendor check-in will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m; Saturday, ahead of the noon opening.
Families participating as vendors are responsible for bringing their own canopy, table and chairs. Organizers also recommend bringing a wagon because of the distance between the unloading area and the market.
The unloading zone will be on the south side of Joyce Street. Participating families are asked to park in the Westpost Parking Garage after unloading. Organizers said one parking ticket per participating family will be validated.
The market will be set up on grass near Bees & Ticks at Westpost.
Food vendors are responsible for complying with applicable Virginia cottage food laws. Organizers said no additional food or beverage vendors will be accepted because of Arlington County's licensing timeframe.
The Kids Market is intended to give children a chance to build confidence through direct interactions with customers while learning some of the basics of running a small business.
