The Columbia Pike Partnership will use the Downtown Investment Grant to support its 2026 Placemaking Strategy along the Arlington corridor.

ARLINGTON, VA — Arlington's Columbia Pike corridor is getting a $15,000 boost from Virginia to support efforts to make the area more attractive and welcoming to residents, businesses and visitors.

The Columbia Pike Partnership received a $15,000 Downtown Investment Grant for its 2026 Placemaking Strategy, one of 10 such awards announced by Gov. Abigail Spanberger as part of a $615,000 statewide investment in downtown revitalization projects.

The grant will support the organization's efforts to strengthen Columbia Pike's identity as a destination for shopping, dining and community activities. The announcement did not detail the specific improvements planned under the strategy.

Downtown Investment Grants fund one-time physical improvements or technical assistance for projects aimed at creating more vibrant commercial districts. Eligible projects include streetscape improvements, public art, signs to help visitors navigate downtown areas and efforts to attract businesses.

"Walkable, vibrant, and unique downtowns are central to attracting businesses, encouraging tourism, and revitalizing communities where Virginians want to live and work," Spanberger said in a statement.

About The Columbia Pike Partnership

Founded in 1986 as the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization, the nonprofit has spent four decades working to improve the 3.5-mile corridor stretching from Arlington's border with Fairfax County toward the Pentagon.

Now known as the Columbia Pike Partnership, the organization works with businesses, residents, property owners and Arlington County to support economic development and community activities.

Its programs include the Columbia Pike Farmers Market, the annual Columbia Pike Blues Festival, outdoor movie nights and initiatives supporting neighborhood businesses.

The partnership also advocates for transportation improvements, safer sidewalks and streets, and efforts to make the corridor more pedestrian-friendly.

The $15,000 grant will support the organization's 2026 Placemaking Strategy, although the state has not specified which projects or improvements the funding will cover.

Statewide Revitalization Funding

Arlington's award is among 10 Downtown Investment Grants totaling $445,000. Those grants are expected to leverage an additional $237,000 in local investments.

Another 12 communities will share $170,000 in Community Vitality Grants, which support business development, community improvements and organizational planning.

In all, Virginia awarded $615,000 to 22 projects across the state.

According to the governor's office, Virginia Main Street communities generated more than $41 million in private investment and $10 million in public improvements in 2025, helping create or retain more than 1,200 jobs.
