Crews quickly located and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents, fire officials said.

Firefighters discovered a small fire in the attic and inside a second-floor wall, according to scanner traffic cited by ARLnow. Crews opened skylights to ventilate the home, and the fire was declared extinguished around 5:45 p.m.

A witness told ARLnow that firefighters entered the home with a hose while another crew worked on the roof to release smoke.

Washington Boulevard was temporarily closed in both directions near North Taylor Street during the emergency response, according to ARLnow.

Authorities have not released the cause of the fire or the number of residents displaced.
