ARLINGTON, VA — Active-duty Marine Kyle King won the 51st annual Marine Corps Marathon for the third consecutive year and fourth time in five years Sunday.
King completed the race in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 31 seconds. It was his best time at the event, according to results on the Marine Corps Marathon Organization's website.
Colorado resident Kaylee Slade won the women's race, finishing in 2 hours, 44 minutes and 24 seconds, while Marine veteran Zachary Stinson won the handcycle race in 1 hour, 15 minutes and 10 seconds.
Stinson previously won the handcycle race in 2023 and finished second in 2024.
The race started on a chilly Sunday morning near the Pentagon in Arlington, passed some of Washington's most iconic monuments and ended back in Arlington at the Iwo Jima memorial, with Marines lining the closing stretch.
When NBC4 asked if the race was getting easier each time, King said the opposite was true.
"I'd say it gets harder each time," he said. "The pressure's always there. I mean, this year was especially intimidating."
Next year's event is currently scheduled for Oct. 31 — Halloween.
