ARLINGTON, VA — With all precincts reporting, incumbent Arlington County Board Member Matthew D. "Matt" de Ferranti and School Board candidate Bethany Zecher Sutton received a majority of votes in Tuesday's General Election. All results remain official.
Arlington is using ranked-choice voting in the County Board election, allowing voters to rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives a majority of first-choice votes, the lowest-ranked candidate is eliminated and votes are redistributed according to voters' next choices.
With 54 of 54 precincts reporting, de Ferranti garnered 59,046 (69.4%) votes compared to Audrey R. Clement's 18,345 (21.6%) and David P. Sisson's 6,863 (8.1%).
In the school board race, Bethany Zecher Sutton finished the night with 64,826 votes (77.8%) to James Vell Rives IV's with 17,620 (21.1%).
In the county treasurer's race, Kim Rucker pulled in 71,563 votes (86.0%) to Assim Rawoot's 10,658 (12.6%) with all precincts counted.
In addition, all five of the Bond Referendums on the ballot appeared to have passed by wide margins, according to unofficial results.
Results for all races are available on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
Three candidates are competing for one at-large seat on the Arlington County Board.
Democratic incumbent Matt de Ferranti is seeking another term against independents Audrey Clement and David Sisson.
Initial results may reflect first-choice votes before ranked-choice tabulation is completed.
Two candidates are competing for one seat on the Arlington School Board.
School Board elections are nonpartisan, meaning candidates do not have party affiliations listed beside their names on the ballot. Political parties may endorse candidates, but those endorsements do not change the race's official nonpartisan status.
Two candidates are competing in a special election for Arlington County treasurer.
The winner will serve the remainder of a term ending Dec. 31, 2027.
Arlington voters decided five bond questions totaling $264.26 million for transportation, parks, community infrastructure, utilities and public schools.
Each referendum requires a separate majority vote to pass. Election officials will update the bond question results as they report the totals.
Election-night results are unofficial until certified by election officials.
