STERLING, VA — One person was seriously injured in a shooting in Sterling on Monday night, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said. Authorities are asking for the public's help identifying the suspect.

The victim, who police only described as an adult male, suffered serious injuries in the shooting. He was in stable condition at an area hospital on Tuesday, police said.

Investigators described the suspect as a tall, slender Black man. He was wearing dark camouflage clothing, a scarf, and a black stocking hat.

The shooting occurred around 6:20 p.m. on Monday at a parking lot at 22000 Dulles Retail Plaza in Sterling. The sheriff's office did not provide many details about what led to the shooting in a report on Tuesday.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect and the victim knew each other and that this was not a random act," the sheriff's office wrote in a report.
