$1M Virginia Lottery Ticket Surprises Ashburn Man
An Ashburn man won $1 million in the Dec. 9 Powerball drawing by matching the first five numbers. At first, though, he didn't realize that.

ASHBURN, VA — For whatever reason, Ashburn resident Tom Supp misread his ticket in the Dec. 9 Powerball drawing. He knew he was a winner, but he thought his booty was "only" $600. Anyway, when he took the ticket to the Virginia Lottery customer service center, he found out it actually was worth $1 million.
"I couldn't speak after that," he told a lottery official. "I was in disbelief." He matched the first five numbers: 25-36-37-55-60, but missed the Powerball number of 6. Supp bought the ticket at the 7-Eleven at 20630 Ashburn Road, which received a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
Supp, a communications contractor, said he plans to put his winnings toward retirement. His ticket was the only one in Virginia to match the first five numbers, and one of just three nationwide.
