ASHBURN, VA — A former treasurer of the Rock Ridge High School Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) was arrested last week and charged with embezzlement, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Authorities claimed the former treasurer, who police identified as Sophia Brown, embezzled more than $21,000.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office began an investigation into the PTSO finances in August 2020, authorities said in a report. The sheriff's office said they were "notified of a possible embezzlement by the treasurer."

In their news release, the sheriff's office did not specify who reported the embezzlement or how they learned that funds were missing.
