25th Anniversary Celebration!!

St. David's Episcopal Church to celebrate 25 years of Transforming Lives In Ashburn on September 27.

Did you know Belmont Plantation was purchased in 1836 by Margaret Mercer, a remarkable woman of her time? An educator, philanthropist, faithful Episcopalian and staunch opponent of slavery, her commitment to spiritual formation and academics took the form of Belmont Academy, a boarding school for girls in the Manor House.Belmont Chapel was built in 1840 and was the beginning of what would be the Episcopal Church in Ashburn and the future site of St. David’s.

In 1987, a deed was discovered in the Loudoun County Clerk’s Office that restored the Belmont Chapel property to the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia as part of an effort to serve the growing needs of Loudoun County and plant an Episcopal mission church in Ashburn.

In 1990, 12 members founded St. David’s as mission church with Stephen McWhorter as the first vicar. First service held on Easter Sunday with 60 people under a tent in the woods and mud at the end of the “Old Rocky Road to Salvation” which was the access to the property off of Old Ashburn Road. Today, the peaceful ruins of Belmont Chapel in the churchyard welcome you for quiet reflection.
