LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A new tutoring program will begin helping Loudoun County students in January 2024, the school system announced this week. The program, supported by $9.6 million in "All In VA" funds from the state, will assist students in grades 3 through 8 who are struggling with reading and math.

The All In VA program was announced by Gov. Glenn Youngkin in September. The governor said his plan would address leaning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and chronic absenteeism that is plaguing many school systems.

The Loudoun County school system received $13,622,240 as part of the All In VA plan. The Loudoun County School Board approved a spending plan that would use 70 percent of the funds on high dosage tutoring. Officials are using 20 percent of the funds, $2.73 million, to aid in literacy initiatives. The remaining $1.36 million is being used to combat absenteeism.

In a news release, officials from Loudoun County Public Schools said every elementary and middle school in Loudoun County will communicate individually with families who qualify for the new high dosage tutoring.

"This high-dosage tutoring does not replace LCPS’ current structure for providing support and remediation to address individual student needs," the school system said. "Additionally, all students, regardless of whether they have been identified to receive tutoring services or not, will have access to free online services."

Officials did not provide any other specific details about the new tutoring program. They noted that tutoring will begin by Jan. 23.

"The shuttering of our schools led to lasting learning loss for our children. Especially in grade 3 through 8, we must redouble our efforts," Gov. Youngkin said when he announced the All In VA plan in September. "The All In VA plan fosters collaboration between school divisions, our Department of Education, community leaders, and most importantly, students and their parents. I challenge all of us to work together with urgency to create a brighter future and deliver the education our students in the Commonwealth were robbed of for far too long."
