ROUND HILL, VA — A Round Hill family was displaced Saturday after an accidental fire heavily damaged a home on Tedler Circle, Loudoun County fire officials said.

Fire and rescue units from Purcellville, Hamilton, Philomont, Mount Weather, Leesburg and Clarke County responded, along with command officers, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters arrived and found fire showing from the front and sides of a two-story single-family home. Crews deployed hose lines and requested a Rapid Intervention Task Force for additional resources.

Searches confirmed that everyone inside the home had gotten out. Firefighters extinguished the fire, which had extended into the home’s living space, and remained at the scene for an extended period to overhaul the structure.

The Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was accidental. Investigators said it was caused by the improper disposal of recently used wood chips from a smoker into a plastic container in the garage.

Damage was estimated at $348,480, including $211,200 to the structure and $137,280 to the contents.

Two adults, three juveniles, four cats and two dogs were displaced and are staying locally, officials said. No civilians or first responders were injured.
