ASHBURN, VA – The Washington Commanders announced Monday morning that the team was "parting ways" with newly hired tight ends coach Ben Steele.
The announcement comes two days before training camp is set to start. Steele had been stopped in Loudoun County, where the Commanders train, on June 7 and charged with driving while intoxicated, refusing a breathalyzer test, obstruction or resisting without force and changing course after a signal.
ESPN reports that Steele was placed on leave after the arrest and missed several spring practices as a result.
Steele had been the tight ends coach for the Arizona Cardinals since 2023 before being hired by the Commanders.
