Mia Bieniemy 'Making Progress' After VA Shooting, Chiefs Head Coach Says

Mia Bieniemy, wife of Kansas City Chiefs coach Eric Bieniemy, is out of intensive care and making progress, according to a new statement.

ASHBURN, VA – Mia Bieniemy, who police say was shot by her son on Sunday night in Ashburn, is out of the intensive care unit and "doing better," according to a statement released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday.

Police responded to Bieniemy's home on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday, where they found her with multiple gunshot wounds. Her son, 27-year-old Elijah Bieniemy, has been charged in the attack.

Mia's husband, Eric Bieniemy, is the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs and a former offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on Wednesday afternoon said Mia was "doing better," and "out of the ICU unit and making progress." He said Eric Bieniemy is still with her.

Eric Bieniemy was in Missouri with the Chiefs when the shooting occurred.

reported that Eric Bieniemy bought the home on Northpark Drive in July 2023.

According to court documents obtained by Loudoun Now, Mia Bieniemy was shot twice inside a home on Northpark Drive. The house was purchased by her husband in July 2023.

Loudoun Now also reported that four people were in the home when the shooting occurred.

Following the shooting, Elijah Bieniemy was charged with use of a firearm in commission of a felony and discharging a firearm inside a dwelling. He has an initial hearing set for Aug. 31.
