LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The Loudoun County Adult Detention Center will be featured on the next episode of the Discovery Channel series "120 Hours Behind Bars," the county sheriff's office announced.
According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Department, the county's detention center will be profiled on the documentary series' next episode, airing on Monday, Oct. 5, at 9 p.m.
LCSO says the episode will include interviews with people incarcerated at the jail, as well as staff, and will depict the jail's rehabilitation and re-entry programs. LCSO said it was grateful to be selected for the series.
"120 Hours Behind Bars" bills itself as an "unfiltered look inside the toughest US jails." Past episodes have explored overcrowding in jails, infrastructure issues, understaffing, and recidivism, as well as what are described as unique or innovative programs to address addiction and violence.
Loudoun County is consistently counted among the wealthiest in the United States. According to documents prepared by LCSO, the facility's average daily population in the fiscal year ending in June 2025 was 272, an increase from the previous year, but below the jail's rated capacity. It saw 3,506 bookings in 2023, the last year for which figures could be found, and anticipated 3,395 in 2026. Its operating costs per inmate were the highest in Virginia in 2023, according to a Virginia General Assembly report.
LCSO points out that regardless of population, a variety of positions must be staffed 24 hours a day.
The jail provides specialty dockets for veterans, offenders with mental health conditions, offenders with substance use disorders and offenders judged at high risk of intoxicated driving. The dockets provide specialized support and supervision.
LCSO says the jail also provides, directly or through partners, a variety of education and job training courses.
