Armed Robber Hits Sterling Convenience Store

Loudoun County Sheriff's Office: Employee, customer tried to break up theft.

An armed suspect fled after an employee and customer intervened in a robbery Wednesday night at a Sterling convenience store, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred at the High-Up Food Mart, in the 400 block of Enterprise Street. The suspect entered the store shortly before 9:30 p.m., brandished a firearm and demanded cash, Loudoun police said.

The suspect jumped over the counter and grabbed money from the cash register. The cashier and a customer intervened, and a physical altercation ensued, police said.

After a brief struggle, the suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was seriously injured in the robbery, police said.

The suspect, described as a black male, was wearing a red jacket, blue jeans, a black stocking cap and purple gloves, police said. The suspect concealed his face with a blue bandana. The firearm was recovered at the scene.
