Ashburn Cares Doubles the Amount of Food Collected This Year!
Sterling Cares Joins the Effort!
Completely grassroots, neighborhood based effort
Leesburg, VA: Loudoun Hunger Relief (LHR) is so grateful! Two neighborhood food drives have provided nearly 7000 pounds of food. More than 6000 pounds of food, double the amount collected last spring, was gathered by Ashburn Cares and delivered to Loudoun Hunger Relief. Ashburn Cares is a group of nearly 100 friends and neighbors in Ashburn who have come together to fight food insecurity in Loudoun County with a food drive to benefit all who need our help.

Inspired by the Ashburn efforts, a group of neighbors in Sterling has formed Sterling Cares. The Sterling Cares group collected 700 pounds of food in their first effort.
Ashburn Cares organizer-in-chief Ken Courter, said “We are so grateful to our Ashburn and Sterling neighbors, who together provided nearly 7000 pounds of food for our neighbors in need”.

The food drive in Sterling took place over the course of two weeks, and was associated with the Sterling Health and Wellness Fair held at the Sterling Community Center on April 29. The Ashburn food drive was the weekend of May 6 and 7, with collection boxes at more than 20 locations throughout Ashburn.
LHR Executive Director, Jennifer Montgomery, said “We have been so grateful to work with all the wonderful volunteers of Ashburn Cares and Sterling Cares. Enough food was collected to provide three days of groceries for three meals each day to 700 people. The numbers are impressive, but caring and hope that this food represents is beyond measure”.
Loudoun Hunger Relief served 11,000 people at least once in FY2016. 40% of these are children. 7% are seniors.

Ashburn Cares and Sterling Cares are grassroots volunteer groups in Ashburn and Sterling Virginia. They came together to raise food and funds to benefit Loudoun Hunger Relief, the primary emergency food pantry in Loudoun County, Va.
About Loudoun Hunger Relief
Loudoun Hunger Relief (formerly Loudoun Interfaith Relief) is the largest food pantry in Loudoun County. Last year LHR provided 1.2 million pounds of food to more than 11,000 individuals through 73,000 visits. 40% of those served are children. LHR distributes food to families six days a week, year round.
