Ashburn Health Inspections: Flies Found In Baked Goods Display

The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at a pair of facilities in the Ashburn area during recent inspections.

ASHBURN, VA — A pair of facilities in the Ashburn area recorded violations during health department inspections between Nov. 16 and Nov. 22.

Most COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

  • Panera Bread #1011, 43670 Greenway Corp Dr Ashburn, VA 20147
    • Date inspected: Nov. 28
    • Total violations: 3
      • Establishment is unable to provide procedures for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events.
      • Food not protected from contamination in that live fruit fly observed on a bagel in open bagel display shelf in food service area. Person in charge (PIC) voluntarily discarded said bagel.
      • Several live fruit flies observed in bake food display and service area, self service soda area and near mop sink in the facility.
  • Manhattan Pizza, 21800 Town Center Plaza, Unit #255 Sterling, VA 20164
    • Date inspected: Nov. 29
    • Total violations: 5
      • Observed Hand Sink by the 3 VAT sink to contain mixers, spatulas, pans, and other utensils.
      • Observed two wrapped ground beef patties thawing at ambient.
      • Observed visible white light shining under door in back allowing for possible entry of pests. Observed 2 fruit flies in the establishment.
      • Observed tongs on oven handle pressing against oven, observed tongs on handles of XLT Pizza Maker pressed against components.
      • Observed Hand Washing Sink to be turned off by the 3 VAT sink. When turned back on it was evident that there was a leak.
